Riseholme Residents Demand Action After Collision on Riseholme Lane

Two teenagers have been injured in an incident on Riseholme Lane and local resident are calling for action. The two teenage boys, a sixteen year-old from Market Rasen and the a seventeen year-old from Grimsby, were hit by a car at 4.57pm on Tuesday, 6th November.

The older of the two boys is understood to be being treated for serious head injuries at Sheffield's Royal Hallamshire Hospital while the younger one has been discharged from Lincoln County Hospital after being kept in overnight for observation.

A  seventyh-four year-old man, from Lincoln, has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop after the collision and has been released on police bail until Tuesday, 18th December .

It comes after one lady died in a crash on the road last July when her car collided with a tree.

Parish Councillor Mrs. Barbara Lane, said the road was used by drivers cutting through from the A15 to the A46. Speaking to the Lincolnshire Echo, she said:

"It tends to be used as a rat run and collisions like what happened on Tuesday don't surprise me at all. 

"They're always mending and repairing fences down Riseholme Lane after cars have hit them. All the residents down here are getting fed up. It's a good job there aren't very many children down here.

"Another problem we have is with students and coaches using the lane to get to Riseholme College instead of the main entrance. I don't know what the answer is but Riseholme Lane isn't in a very good condition either and really needs patching up."

Meanwhile, Mr. Martin Finney, a resident of Riseholme Lane, commented to the paper:

"If you're not careful you can easily get into some trouble on Riseholme Lane, whether you're a driver or a pedestrian."

Lincolnshire County Council's Area Highways Manager, Mr. Alan Brown, said:

"Once we get full details through about what caused this collision, we can assess whether any changes to the highway are needed."

Residents of Washdyke Lane, Nettleham have been left shocked after what has been described as a 'tractor' caught fire earlier today. Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue were called to the scene shortly after midday.

According to an eyewitness account the driver of the vehicle was seen running from side-to-side of the engine with a small extinguisher trying to bring flames under control. The tractor’s fuel tank burst, spilling fuel down road, with flames up to twenty feet high, visible from the A46 ring road at its height.

Around lunchtime on Tuesday, 2nd October 2012 the vehicle caught fire and by two o'clock, the road remained closed between the end of Kingsway to the bus-stop and the Highways department had been contacted.

Firemen used two main jets and two breathing apparatus, and extinguished the fire. One fire engine remained on scene to clear out the area. The cause of the fire is still unknown. No one was reportedly injured in the incident.

Passengers on the No. 11 bus, arriving in Nettleham from Lincoln, as they turned on to Washdyke Lane were faced with a scene of carnage on the carriage way.

District Councillor for the Nettleham Ward, Giles McNeill, speaking at the scene, said:

"It seems to have been a very severe fire, and very serious incident. I have spoken with a member of Lincolnshire Police to understand what may have happened here today.

"I am not aware if anyone has been injured at this early stage. I hope that those involved are safe and well and that answers will be forthcoming." 

Man Injured in Sudbrooke Crash

A man from Lincoln is seriously injured after his black Peugeot 308 crashed on the A158 Wragby Road in Sudbrooke on Sunday, 29th January 2012.

Police say there were no other vehicles involved in the crash, which took place at 4.20am. The man, whose age is not yet confirmed, was initially taken to Lincoln County Hospital suffering from a head injury. It is understood he was later transferred to a hospital in Sheffield. There were no other occupants in his vehicle.

The A158 Wragby Road was closed until 8.30am. Police are appealing for any witnesses who saw the collision or the Peugeot being driven prior to the incident. Anyone with information should contact the Collision Witness Hotline on 01522 558855.

Two Fatalities Following Car Crash

 A man and a woman were killed in a collision on the A46 north of Lincoln, near Nettleham.

A blue Vauxhall Astra collided with a purple Citroen Xsara between Riseholme Lane and Washdyke Lane, the Lincolnshire Echo today reports.

Biker killed in A46 Lincoln Bypass Tragedy

The Lincolnshire Echo is reporting that a motorcyclist was pronounced dead on the scene of an accident which caused the A46 Lincoln bypass to close for four hours.

The rider, believed to be a middle-aged man from the Nottingham area, was riding a red Triumph motorbike which was in collision with a van and a car.

The other vehicles involved were a blue Daf van driven by a North Hykeham man and black Toyota saloon owned by a Lincoln resident.

Neither of the drivers were injured.

Congestion rippled across the city following the collision which occurred at 11.25am on Friday causing both carriageways of the A46 between the Riseholme and Nettleham roundabouts to close.

Spokesman for Lincolnshire Police, James Newall, said:

"This incident took place when there would have been a fair amount of traffic on the roads. It is vital that we get information from as many witnesses as possible while it is still relatively fresh in their minds.

"The road was closed for a significant amount of time to enable our collision experts to carry out their analysis of the scene and for recovery teams to clear the stretch."

The Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership confirmed this was the seventh fatality on the county's roads so far in 2010 and the fifth accident causing injury on this stretch of the A46 in five years.

Accident on A46 at Welton Hill

A motorist has died after skidding on black ice on the A46 Welton Hill bypass.

The accident, which happened just after 6:00am, involved a blue Citroen C2 and a Volvo V40.
Road closures are in place between Nettleham Roundabout and Middle Rasen, along the A46.

It is just one of eight accidents due to icy road conditions on the county's roads this morning.
Other danger spots reported by the police have also include the A158 which runs through North Greetwell.

Inspector Gordon Richard, of Lincolnshire Police, said:

"Now we are entering the winter season the temperatures and weather change dramatically.

"And with black ice you won't have the first inclination it's there until you hit it, so we are urging motorists to take extra care on the county's roads this morning."

The Lincolnshire motorist who died following a crash on the A46 bypass on Friday morning has been named.

Neil Smith, 44, of Fern Drive, Market Rasen, died when his blue Citroen C2 collided with a green Volvo V40 at Welton Hill just before 6.45am on Friday.

It is thought the accident was caused by black ice. Mr Smith, who is married, was travelling towards the town and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Volvo driver was said to be travelling in the direction of Lincoln and firefighters were called to pull him from the wreckage of his car.
