Circus To Pitch Big Top In Waddington

Update to 'No Circus For Nettleham' and 'Is The Circus Coming To Town?'.

The Great British Circus, which had approached Nettleham Parish Council to potentially lease Mulsanne Park, which uses lions, tigers and other animals in performances, will be pitching up in Waddington later this month.
The circus' imminent arrival has generated a storm of opposition from locals and animal rights campaigners. Activists say they are outraged that the group still uses animals, while residents say the circus will be too noisy and clog up local roads during its three-week stay.

Bosses at the circus insist they adhere to world-class standards in looking after their animals; however, opponents are still hoping they can halt the plans before the circus arrives on Sunday 21st February 2010.

Mr. David McKennacorrect, a resident from Hobart Close in Waddington, said 'one-hundred and one percent' of his village was against it.

"We are going to do our damnedest to stop this."

"The whole thing will be a disaster."

Update to 'Is The Circus Coming To Town?'.

At last night's Nettleham Parish Council the meeting was informed that the request to place a circus at Mulsanne Park had been withdawn.

Cllr. McNeill said:

"The poll on this site, while having only a very small number of votes cast showed a relatively even spit between those in favour (7 votes) and those against (9 votes). There will obviously be people who are disappointed and those who are pleased, but the decision was taken out of our hands."

Is The Circus Coming To Town?

A gentleman has contacted Nettleham Parish Council about the possibility of locating a circus at Mulsanne Park for a two week period later this year, in March.

A descision is expected to be taken at the next parish council meeting scheduled to be held on the evening of Tuesday, 2nd February 2010.

It is understood that the circus promoter will provide a letter detailing the dates the circus would wish to be at Mulsanne Park, the hours it would be operating on, the area of land required, information on relevant insurances, the fee they would be prepared to pay and the sort of circus that would perform.

It is understood that the views of user clubs at Mulsanne Park are being sought. As the sports facilities enjoyed by football, cricket and tennis clubs at Mulsanne Park are financed through a rent calculation based on the operating profit/loss of the site any additional income that can be generated from external bodies is often welcomed as this reduces the rents the clubs pay and the cost to the taxpayer.
