New Play Equipment for Bill Bailey's Field Opened

Nettleham Parish Council owns and manages three play areas within the village and has been conscious for some time that no new play equipment had been installed at any of the sites.

Last September the Council received an approach from a youngster in the village who suggested that a small roundabout (called a Sputnik) would be a useful addition to the play area at Bill Bailey’s playing field.

After consideration by the Property Committee and the full Council, funds were allocated in the 2010/11 budget for the equipment, and this has recently been installed at a total cost of £4,800.

The equipment will be formally opened at today at half past two by Joseph Shaw, the youngster who made the original suggestion. His school (Nettleham Infant School) has been very supportive and have agreed that the whole class can attend this event.

The ceremony will also be attended by The Chairman of the Property Committee and other Councillors.

Nettleham Parish Council Receives Grant From Star Energy

Nettleham Parish Council has recently applied for funding from Star Energy to help provide some equipment and fencing for the Bill Bailey's Memorial Field.

The council has been successful in being granted £6,000 towards a total expenditure of £10,000 to fence off the play equipment area. Unfortunately Star Energy have not given any grant to the purchase of new play equipment. Other sources of funding are also being investigated.

Member of Nettleham Parish Council, Cllr. Giles McNeill commented:
"I was, and remain, very much in favour of expanding the council's attempts to get more revenue from grant sources, the Parish Council has received virtually no grant income over the past five years, so this is a very welcome developement. I must praise the Council's staff who work very hard on delivering these achievements."

New Play Equipment for Bill Bailey's Field

At last night's Nettleham Parish Council Property Committee Meeting the committee, which had previously agreed to purchase some new equipment at the Bill Bailey's memorial playing field, agreed the final stage of the project. The decision will need to go to full Council for ratification, however in the coming months some new equipment, for a slightly older age group, will be installed.

Nettleham Parish Councillor, Giles McNeill said:
"I want to ensure that families have facilites for there children in the village, obviously Nettleham can not provide for everybodies needs, but we can make our play areas accessable to children of all ages and this newequipment helps us do just that."
The play equipment will be funded by the Parish Council from the parish's reserves, possibly from grant funding, and new Bill Bailey's Capital Expenditure fund which Cllr. McNeill proposed be established.
